The Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, reported this Thursday that the country's security services have arrested in Warsaw a Russian citizen recruited by Moscow's Intelligence, whose mission was to attack a person with dual nationality, American and Ukrainian, in the capital.
"Thanks to a really brilliant action by our Interior Security Agency services, on August 7 we arrested a Russian citizen recruited by the Russian services, whose task was to carry out an execution in Warsaw of a citizen with dual nationality, American and Ukrainian," he indicated during a press conference.
Tusk emphasized that it is "the first time" that a Russian agent attempts to "attack an American citizen on the territory of another NATO member country," although the security forces managed to stop the "execution" "at the last minute."
"Unfortunately, we must assume that the regime of (President Vladimir) Putin will try to eliminate people who are uncomfortable for various reasons, in different places around the world, and therefore, our actions in this matter will be extremely intense, aimed at preventing new attempts directed against citizens of Poland or other countries on our territory," he concluded.
The Warsaw Police specified that the suspect, 29 years old, was arrested on Woloska Street and has been charged under Article 148 of the Polish Penal Code, which punishes preparatory acts to commit homicide or murder.
"The investigation in this case is being conducted by the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw Sródmiescie-Pólnoc. On August 9, the court, considering the prosecutor's request, applied provisional detention to the suspect for a period of three months," he detailed.
