The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has kicked off the G20 ministerial meetings in Atlanta by urging partners to support the leadership of the United States in energy, technology and Artificial Intelligence, with the aim of protecting its "economic and security interest" and that of the group as a whole.
"From the first day of his term, President Trump has prioritized the realization of this vision. It is in the economic and national security interest of the United States that we be leaders in energy, that we have solid supply chains, that we eliminate the regulatory obstacles that hold back growth and that we lead the development of Artificial Intelligence and other crucial emerging technologies," the American leader has assured in his speech.
In a message that is interpreted in terms of rivalry with China and in defense of "deregulation" in the face of certain economic policies of the European Union, the secretary has reiterated his willingness to apply "practical and positive solutions" from his perspective for the United States, for the G20 countries and, ultimately, "the world".
Rubio has recalled the various meetings held throughout the year in several cities in the country, focused on issues such as "trade, fiscal and monetary policy, technology and energy," and has advanced that during this weekend he will hold new meetings to set the "leaders' setting in Doral".
The Foreign Affairs official has underlined that the challenges facing the member States are "complex" and are "interconnected", emphasizing that "they must work together to address them" and that, when their interests "do not align", they must "move forward" until they find common ground.
He has also stated that he maintains the "hope of setting in motion a solid relationship, with an aligned commitment and a shared approach in the policies of common interests and that help prosper".
When referring to those "economic challenges", Rubio has insisted that the priority of the Administration of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, is a "future of economic prosperity and growth supported by safe energy".
In this line, the head of US diplomacy has pointed out that "probably" the national interest of each of the countries represented in the G20 is centered on "energy, technology, advances, innovation," which is why the group has focused on "fundamental economic policies" ahead of the imminent leaders' summit.
