The Ministry of Defense of Russia has communicated that during the day on Sunday, 1,951 drone attacks and the launch of eight missiles by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against areas under Russian control were recorded. According to the authorities, this would be the most intense offensive since the beginning of the conflict, coinciding with the third and final day of the legislative elections in the country.
The mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, has denounced that the Ukrainian forces have carried out the "largest drone attack" against the Russian capital, with the intention, he said, of "disrupting" the electoral day this Sunday, in which citizens are called to choose the new composition of the State Duma, the Lower House of Parliament.
Sobyanin indicated in the afternoon that about 450 unmanned aerial vehicles were targeting Moscow and its surroundings. Some of these devices would have reached an oil refinery, although, he specified, no fatalities have occurred at that specific point.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense has assured that "the attempt of a massive attack against Moscow has failed and the enemy has not achieved its objectives." Despite this, the authorities have confirmed the death of two people in the Moscow region and another two in the part of the Ukrainian region of Kherson that remains under Russian control.
In Kherson, a polling station member identified as Olga Zimianenko has died and another person has passed away in a drone attack against a bus, according to the chairwoman of the Russian Central Electoral Commission, Ela Pamfilova. Pamfilova herself has also pointed out that a "provoked fire" occurred in a polling station in Komi, also in the Kherson region, and added that the alleged responsible person has been detained.
The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobiov, has communicated the downing of 249 Ukrainian drones in 17 districts of the regional territory and has confirmed the death of two civilians in the districts of Orekhovo-Zuyevski and Ramenski. He has also detailed that another 20 people have been injured, of which 15 have had to be hospitalized.
These attacks have occurred while the parliamentary elections that began last Friday are taking place, the first held since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. As a novelty, polling stations have been set up in the Ukrainian areas occupied by the Russian Army.
The Central Electoral Commission has reported that, until 1:37 PM this Sunday, 50.46% of the electorate had already gone to vote. In this context, a new victory for the ruling party United Russia is practically considered certain, which currently holds 315 of the 450 seats in the State Duma.
