The U.S. State Department has pushed back against speculation and denied that Secretary Marco Rubio is considering leaving the Government of President Donald Trump before his term ends. Amid an ongoing debate about his political future and a possible presidential bid in 2028, the Department has described the information that has been circulating in recent days as “completely false news.”

In statements to Europa Press, Dylan Johnson, the Under Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs, reiterated that Rubio has not put his departure from the post on the table and has categorically rejected the leaks that have been published.

“This is completely false information, based on the word of anonymous sources, typical of sensationalist press. The secretary has not spoken about leaving his position and will continue to serve with pride in the Administration of President Trump long after this false information is exposed as another unfounded deception,” Johnson said.

Along the same lines, Edgar Vasquez, the Department’s deputy press undersecretary, specifically took aim at the article by the British newspaper 'The Independent', which suggested a possible resignation by Rubio to prepare a presidential candidacy in 2028.

“The information published by 'The Independent' is false and not worth even the paper it is written on. Secretary Rubio is focused on pushing forward President Trump’s agenda and fulfilling the needs of the American people,” Vasquez said.

These statements come after Marco Rubio himself commented that he did not know “where these things come from,” referring to reports about his alleged resignation, and he stressed that he “loves” the work he does in the Administration.

Rumors about Rubio’s departure have gained momentum after the publication of an electoral analysis by Vice President, JD Vance, in which he attributed part of the setback suffered by Republicans at the polls to the war with Iran. Trump’s “number two” also warned of growing discontent among conservative voters with the Government’s policy toward Israel and with its economic message, in a scenario in which the U.S. president has closed ranks with Israel and has called concerns about the cost of living “deception.”
