The candidate Iliana Yotova is in first place with between 57 and 59% support in the second round of the presidential elections in Bulgaria held this Sunday, according to the first official data, still provisional, corresponding to 20% of the ballots counted.
The current president, Yotova, would thus clearly be ahead of her rival, Andrei Giurov, who would obtain between 38 and 39% of the votes, according to projections based on the actual count.
The exit polls carried out at polling stations also predict a triumph for Yotova, although with a somewhat smaller margin: Yotova would obtain 52.5% of the votes compared to 43.4% for Giurov, according to the Alpha Research study.
For its part, the polling company Myara estimates that Yotova would achieve 51.1% support compared to 44.6% for Giurov and, according to the firm Trend, Yotova would reach 51.6% of ballots compared to 44% for Giugov.
Regarding turnout, official figures have not yet been released, but the exit polls indicate a 27.2% turnout of the electorate up to 20:00, when there was still one hour left until the closing of polling stations.
Yotova and Giugov have reached this second round after none of the 27 candidates managed on October 25 to surpass the threshold of half of the votes cast. Almost 6.6 million citizens have been called to the polls in this electoral process.
