The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has denounced that between one and two dozen Spanish activists have been detained by Israel after the interception in the last few hours of the flotilla with humanitarian aid destined for Gaza.
In a press conference after meeting in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelaty, Albares explained that around 45 Spanish citizens were traveling on the boats that were part of said flotilla, which was stopped this Monday by the Israeli Navy in international waters near Cyprus.
The head of Spanish diplomacy has also detailed that the Israeli chargé d'affaires in Spain, Dana Ehrlich, has been summoned for consultations this morning at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey the "formal and energetic protest" of the Spanish Executive for what he has described as an "illegal interception".
