The president of Navarra and general secretary of the PSN, María Chivite, pointed out this Monday, after the electoral advance announced by President Pedro Sánchez, that "we need to expand the social majority to push forward measures" similar to those being promoted by the Government of Navarra, especially in terms of housing, "because it does have a social majority" to carry out policies "that really help people against the vulture funds."
As she highlighted, "in Navarra what is being achieved is cornering speculation and in the medium term I believe that Navarra will achieve it. That's what it's about," she stated in remarks to the media.
In her opinion, "there is a lack of a greater social base to be able to approve measures as important as eliminating barriers to access housing." "And I hope that these elections expand that social base, those political majorities that can allow those measures. I am also glad that the president of the Government has decided to bring those decrees to the Council of Ministers for approval. That is the hope I have," she indicated.
When questioned about a publication by UPN on the social network X, in which it is stated that "the change starts in Navarra," Chivite replied that "I don't know" if they have "realized that first we have general elections." She emphasized that "first there are general elections. And the idea that the change starts in Navarra, there is certainly no survey that supports it. One thing is wishes and another thing is realities and objective realities."
She also explained that "I had the opportunity to convey to the president of the Government what my opinion was, and I also expressed it last Saturday at the Regional Committee we had from the Socialist Party," a forum in which she stated that "regardless of what the general secretary and president of the Government decided, the Socialist Party of Navarra was prepared."
"We have very clear positions, we have convictions that we have to work in this line, as we are certainly doing in Navarra. I conveyed my opinion to the president of the Government regarding this, but I believe that this was not a surprise either. Basically, today what he has done is ratify what had been anticipated throughout the weekend," she pointed out.
Regarding the words of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who has asked Spaniards not to vote by mail on November 29, Chivite has considered that Ayuso, "as the highest expression of the far-right, copies exactly the strategies of the far-right that are used in all countries." "This thing about starting to outline the halo of electoral manipulation, of the manipulation of results... I believe that this is a very worn-out resource of the far-right," she has maintained.
She has added that "we have an electoral system that works with total security, and it really seems to me that these strategies that appeal to a lack of confidence in institutions and democracy do a disservice to our democratic system."
Asked whether the electoral advance could condition the subsequent regional elections, Chivite has answered that "now we are focused on this task, as political parties." She has emphasized that "the Government of Navarra will continue working as it has been doing, we are currently working on the budgets, on that investment plan."
She has insisted that "one thing is everything related to politics from the Government of Navarra, where we are working, and another part is related to the political parties." "In any case, we will see what the result is. Now we face these general elections and we face it as the Socialist Party perfectly prepared for this scenario," she has concluded.
