A 3.1 magnitude earthquake has been recorded this Saturday, October 3, at 19:05 hours in the vicinity of Cúllar Vega, in Granada, according to the provisional calculation released by the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
The first notice places the epicenter southwest of the municipality and calculates a depth of five kilometers. The communication published by IGN Seismology records 17:05:34 UTC, equivalent to 19:05:34 in mainland Spain.
First testimonies from Granada capital
In the responses to the notice from the agency, several users claim to have felt the tremor in Granada capital. Among the references are Almunia park and the Hipercor area, where one person also describes a slight creaking.
These testimonies constitute the first reactions on social media, but do not replace the official assessment of the intensity nor allow for establishing the extent of the movement by themselves.
Provisional data pending review
The magnitude and depth correspond to the first calculation from IGN and may be modified as the records are reviewed. The agency warns in its latest earthquakes service that the information is subject to updates derived from seismic analysis.
The magnitude expresses the size of the earthquake and should not be confused with intensity, which describes its effects in each location. For now, the available reference for this episode is not a provisional magnitude of 3.1, located southwest of Cúllar Vega.
