Frente Amplio has denounced the intervention of the police forces in Puerta del Sol in Madrid, describing the operation to evict the encampment as "totally disproportionate," and has urged the Ministry of the Interior to open an investigation into the conduct of the officers.

The co-spokesperson of the Comuns and member of Congress, Gerardo Pisarello, has underscored that the collectives involved in the encampment had already agreed by majority to put an end to it in order to focus on the preparation of the general strike on November 11, so it strikes him as striking that in the end a police deployment was used to dismantle it.

In a press appearance, Pisarello explained that the representatives of the encampment have denounced the use of pepper spray and the practice of several arrests, calling for a thorough investigation into an action they consider "totally disproportionate." Likewise, he has demanded clarification on whether the eviction order came from the Government Delegation in Madrid or whether it was an autonomous decision by the National Police.

For his part, the deputy of Compromís and deputy spokesperson of the Sumar group, Alberto Ibáñez, has expressed his surprise at the "ratios of public officials that exist in this country to evict a square or to evict a person and that then these ratios are not possible in public schools or in hospitals".

In his view, it should have been the collectives themselves who decided the continuation of the protest and he has highlighted that, with this encampment, they have offered a very relevant lesson to the citizenry, by demonstrating that pressure in the street serves to extract commitments, to the point that the PSOE "would not have given in" to push through the housing decrees without this mobilization.

Finally, the deputy of Más Madrid and number two on the Frente Amplio list for the capital, Tesh Sidi, has praised the persistence of the people encamped in Sol, who "have put their bodies on the line" in defense of the right to housing, a problem that, in her opinion, PP and Vox continue to ignore.
