The Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, still has not specified when he will bring the General State Budget (PGE) project for 2027 to Congress. This lack of definition has led the PP to criticize that the last public accounts were validated 1,373 days ago, in December 2022.
During the session of control to the Government in the Lower House, the Deputy Secretary of Finance of the PP, Juan Bravo, has asked Arcadi España an oral question about this matter: "1,373 days. Does this data mean anything to you? It is the time that has passed since you approved the last Budget."
Bravo has maintained that during this entire period "the Spaniards have fared worse," arguing that, in his opinion, citizens face higher electricity bills, pay more for gasoline, and that, if before it took 100 euros to fill the shopping cart, now it is "more than 140 euros."
The 'popular' deputy has insisted that, in five years, households have seen thousands of euros of purchasing power evaporate due to the "fiscal blow" that he attributes to the Executive. In this context, he has questioned the minister about whether he plans to approve "for the first time a Budget that does not harm Spaniards."
In his reply, Arcadi España avoided specifying any timeline regarding the processing of the new Budgets and returned the criticism to the PP, recalling that "fiscal blow" was what, according to him, the 'popular' Ministry of Finance of Cristóbal Montoro applied by increasing the IRPF, the IBI, and other tax figures to raise 6,275 million euros.
Regarding public accounts, the head of Finance added that the Budgets of 2017 and 2018, with Mariano Rajoy at the head of the Government, were also not presented in time and form, thus emphasizing the delays that, as he indicated, were already occurring under PP executives.
