The Popular Party has launched an offensive in the Senate against the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, Elma Saiz, questioning the "speed" with which her Department responded after the assault on Ceuta and reproaching her that, at this point, she still has not provided a "precise" figure of the irregular immigrants who continue in the autonomous city. In the opinion of the Popular Party, the minister must clarify how many migrants remain in the Temporary Stay Center for Immigrants (CETI) and how many are outside those facilities.
This discontent is reflected in a series of questions registered in the Upper House by the spokesperson for the Popular Group in the Senate, Alicia García, and the Ceuta senator of the PP, Cristina Díaz, which Europa Press has accessed, when more than 40 days have passed since the massive entry of migrants into the city.
Saiz, who also serves as the Government spokesperson, defended this week the Executive's response to the migration crisis in Ceuta and stated that they have acted "responsibly," "transparently," and "attending to the needs at each moment."
Despite this, the Popular Party questions her management and asks her if she "recognizes" any "forecast, planning, or execution error during these weeks" and "what political responsibility the minister assumes." "Does the minister consider that her department reacted with the required speed and correctly sized the necessary resources?" they insist in their writings.
REQUEST FOR DATA: HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IDENTIFIED
In that list of questions, Alicia García and Cristina Díaz demand that the Minister of Inclusion detail "how many people, of those who "irregularly accessed Ceuta" at the end of July "currently remain" in the autonomous city.
They also ask Elma Saiz's Ministry to specify "how many are fully identified and how many are still pending identification or record." In the same vein, they request that it specify "how many are housed in the CETI, how many in other state devices, how many in resources from other administrations or entities, and how many remain outside any reception resource."
The PP reproaches the minister that during her visit to Ceuta she did not provide a clear figure of the number of people who remain in the city and demands explanations as to why she did not do so. "How can the Government properly assess the necessary resources if it does not have an accurate figure of the people who remain in the city?" ask the senators of the Popular Group.
The Populars also want Saiz to detail what specific actions the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration carried out during the first 24, 48, and 72 hours following the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta. In addition, they ask her "on what date did the minister personally become aware of the extent of the situation and what decisions were made from that moment on?".
WHY THE MINISTER DID NOT GO TO CEUTA UNTIL AUGUST 17
Within this parliamentary offensive, García and Díaz demand that the Ministry clarify what the "reason" was for Elma Saiz "not traveling to Ceuta until August 17, almost three weeks after the massive entry occurred." In that same line, they ask her "when did the minister hold the first specific meeting to address the situation created in Ceuta and what specific measures were agreed upon?".
"Can you detail the material and verifiable measures adopted by your department between July 30 and August 17?", insist the senators, reminding that Saiz publicly stated that the Government had not stopped working "for a second." Additionally, they again question whether she considers that her Department "reacted with the required speed and properly assessed the necessary resources" to address the migration crisis in the autonomous city.
