The PP has communicated that the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, will finally attend the Senate next Tuesday, August 18, to report on the actions of her department in the migration crisis of Ceuta, after it was initially set for her to appear this Thursday.
The 'popular' have also reiterated their reproaches to the Ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, Fernando Grande-Marlaska and José Manuel Albares, whom they accuse of "democratic rebellion" for refusing to attend the Upper House to address the situation in Ceuta.
According to the PP, which has an absolute majority in the Senate, the controversy has intensified in recent days following requests for appearances from several members of the Government to discuss the Ceuta crisis.
Dates of the appearances and institutional pulse
At first, the 'popular' had summoned Marlaska for this Wednesday, August 12, Robles for Thursday, August 13, and Albares for Monday, August 17. However, the Executive rejected these dates, arguing that the ministers had already committed to appear at the end of August in the Congress of Deputies.
In light of this refusal, the President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán, sent a letter to the Government expressing his discomfort and decided to keep the official summons in place, despite the ministers' decision not to attend on the set days.
This Tuesday, the PP has detailed that Robles will indeed appear in the Upper House next week, although on a date different from that initially proposed by the 'popular'. "As demanded by the PP, she will have to provide details of the mission entrusted to the Armed Forces in the context of the crisis caused by the influx of 72,000 immigrants at the Ceuta border," the party has defended.
According to the PP's version, Robles sent a letter to the President of the Senate "showing her willingness" to attend the Defense Commission. However, the 'popular' emphasize that "it is her obligation because the Government cannot choose before whom it is accountable, nor appear at will."
Regarding the appearances of Grande-Marlaska and Albares, the PP has assured that it will continue to pressure for them to "come out of their democratic rebellion, stop belittling the Senate, and fulfill their responsibility by appearing in the extraordinary summoned Commissions in the face of a national emergency situation."
