Frente Amplio has demanded that political responsibilities be cleared up after the railway accident that occurred in Urda (Toledo), in which 68 people have died so far, considering it "inadmissible" that two serious accidents are recorded in the same year.
Likewise, the candidacy has requested this Wednesday the carrying out of an independent audit that deeply analyzes the state of the railway network and the services linked to it.
In a statement released after the appearance of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, and after the institutional declaration of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, Frente Amplio has set out its position on the accident.
The formation has pointed out that it speaks out about what happened from "consternation and sadness" and first conveys its condolences to the relatives and close ones of the fatal victims. Likewise, it extends its recognition and support to the technical services operating in the area and to the entire railway staff.
In this context, it has emphasized that the "gravity of this terrible event obliges the utmost clarity and transparency about what happened" and has directed its criticism at the Ministry of Transport by underscoring that "it is inadmissible that such a serious accident be repeated on the high-speed network in the same year".
They demand political responsibilities at all levels
Given the magnitude of what has happened, Frente Amplio maintains that it is essential to assume "responsibilities at all levels".
"Beyond the technical responsibilities, we demand the assumption of political responsibilities. Out of responsibility and out of humanity", the candidacy has emphasized, which has announced the suspension of its pre-campaign agenda until further notice. Among other activities, the event scheduled for this Saturday in Barcelona with the presence of the candidate, Ada Colau, and the lead candidate for Madrid, Emilio Delgado, is postponed.
Through its official accounts on social media, the formation has called on citizens to join the minute of silence called by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) at 20:00 hours in front of the town halls, as a sign of solidarity with the people affected by the accident.
Compromís asks for immediate support and leaves the investigation for later
For his part, the Compromís deputy in Congress, Alberto Ibáñez, has stated on social media that the "heart shrinks at a new incident on the high-speed train".
In his message, he stressed that, at this moment, the priority must be to express all solidarity with the victims and support the emergency teams and railway staff working on the ground. "Afterwards it will be time for investigations and political responsibilities", he added.
