The spokesperson for the Popular Group in Congress, Ester Muñoz, reiterated this Friday that the PP "never" offered money to the former adviser to the Ministry of Transport Koldo García with the aim of harming the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, underlining that "it wasn't necessary" because the matter ended up in the courts.

"It wasn't necessary because the judges have investigated, many people have been charged, some are already convicted and the investigations are still ongoing," Muñoz said in an interview with 'Antena 3' collected by Europa Press.

With these words she was responding to the statements of Koldo García, sentenced to 19 years in prison in the 'masks case', who claims that from the PP he would have been offered money in exchange for information that would help to "overthrow" Sánchez's Government.

The PP leader wanted to emphasize that her party "has never" put on the table "any kind of money to absolutely anyone for giving information" either about the president or about the "corrupt practices" that, according to the Popular Party, affect people close to them, the Executive and the PSOE.

Appeal to the Constitutional Court and criticism of the PSOE

Muñoz links the accusations by Koldo García to the fact that both he and the former minister José Luis Ábalos have filed an amparo appeal with the Constitutional Court in order to try to overturn the sentence in the 'masks case', an organ which, in her view, "acts many times at the behest of the Government and Pedro Sánchez".

The other spokesperson for the PP's election campaign stressed that "this is not the first time" that Koldo García "uses this kind of trickery" and again pointed out that her party has not offered money to anyone so that they would incriminate Pedro Sánchez or the Executive, because they believe it wasn't necessary since the judicial procedure was already underway.

Muñoz also demanded that, "instead of defending themselves by attacking," the socialists carry out their announcement to file the lawsuits that they said they would bring, among others, against the one known as the party's 'fontanera', Leire Díez, and that they focus on collaborating with Justice.

Fúnez recalls the penalties requested in the 'masks case'

Along the same lines, PP’s deputy health secretary, Carmen Fúnez, denied that the PP had offered money to Koldo García and recalled that, when they acted as the prosecution in the 'face masks case', they demanded 30 years in prison for both the former minister José Luis Ábalos and for his then adviser, who were finally convicted by the Supreme Court.

"We have it very clear: we are not the ones who offered a million euros; we are the ones who demand 30 years in prison for Koldo and today Koldo is in jail and is serving a firm sentence from the Supreme Court of 19 years in prison," she stressed after taking part in a health breakfast organized by Europa Press.
