The president of the PP and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has configured the Madrid candidacy for Congress for the general elections on November 29 by surrounding himself with leaders of maximum trust, several deputy secretaries of the party, and a group of Madrid mayors.

Last Thursday, Feijóo already advanced that the deputy Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo would be his "number two" on the list for Madrid and that the third place would be occupied by the national spokesperson of the PP, Borja Sémper. At that time, the popular leadership highlighted that both represent "different ways of understanding Spain" and emphasized that the party accommodates "all sensitivities."

Likewise, on Saturday the PP confirmed that the MEP and deputy secretary of Sectoral Coordination, Alma Ezcurra, —currently responsible for coordinating the electoral program for the general elections— will be number four on the Madrid candidacy for Congress.

Team of trust and deputy secretaries in the top positions

This Monday, the Popular Party has made public the complete list with which it will run for the Lower House for Madrid, which includes a good part of Feijóo's inner circle, starting with two long-time collaborators by his side: Marta Varela, chief of staff of the PP leader, and Mar Sánchez, his right hand for three decades. Both were already on the candidacy for Madrid in the general elections of 2023 and are now repeating in positions six and eight.

Feijóo has reinforced the presence of deputy secretaries on this list, as, in addition to Sémper and Ezcurra, the deputy secretary of Education and Equality, Jaime de los Santos, who will be number five, and the deputy secretary of Economy, Alberto Nadal, who will occupy position nine, are also included. The person in charge of International of the PP, Ildefonso Castro, is also added, located in number 11 of the candidacy.

Madrid mayors and the goal of improving the result

In the same way, the popular leader has decided to include several mayors from the Community of Madrid: Lucia Soledad Fernández, mayor of San Sebastián de los Reyes; Rocío García Alcántara, mayor of Alcobendas; and Paloma Tejero, mayor of Pozuelo. Their names appear in positions 14, 16, and 18, respectively.

In the elections of July 23, 2023, the PP of Feijóo achieved 16 seats in Madrid. Now, the popular leadership has set its team the challenge of improving that mark in the general elections of November. "You have the commitment and the obligation to increase two seats in Madrid," Feijóo acknowledged on Cadena Ser when he asked Álvarez de Toledo when he informed her that she would be his number two for Madrid.
