The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, stated this Thursday that political responsibilities are already "demandable" for the railway tragedy in Urda (Toledo) and insisted that it is not necessary to wait for the conclusion of the official investigations. At the same time, he questioned that the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, keeps the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, in office, and reproached the Government for its latest appointments in the field of infrastructure for not having been guided, in his opinion, by "rigor, experience, and management".

"I have said that political responsibilities cannot wait for an investigation, whether administrative or judicial. Political responsibilities are not optional, they are demandable, ethically and morally," he stressed, also recalling the Executive's reaction after the Adamuz (Córdoba) accident last January and the blackout recorded in April 2025.

The leader of the opposition made these statements in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento of Urda (Toledo), after touring, together with the president of the PP of Castilla-La Mancha, Paco Núñez, the advanced command post deployed after the train accident. During his visit he also held a conversation with the regional president, Emiliano García-Page.

After insisting that at this moment it is essential to act with "a cool head" and "respect," given that the mortal victims still have to be laid to rest, Feijóo reiterated that "political responsibilities cannot be assumed once an investigation has been completed." Even so, he added that "people in Spain have already made a decision regarding the railway management of the Government of Spain".

The Popular leader also lashed out against the reaction of the Transport minister, whom he reproached for having limited himself this Wednesday to "blaming an Atocha operator" and warned that an accident of this magnitude cannot be dismissed with that "frivolity".

HE SAYS THAT "NOBODY" FROM THE GOVERNMENT HAS CALLED HIM

Feijóo added that "nobody" from the Government has contacted him after the accident, although he highlighted that this Thursday in Urda he was received "cordially" by the president of Castilla-La Mancha, who conveyed to him the main details of the situation.

At this moment, the death toll from the derailment in Urda (Toledo) rises to 69, according to what the Castilian-Manchegan president has informed after the meeting of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi), in which he participated together with the President of the Government. As for the injured, of the 110 hospitalized on Wednesday, 60 have already been discharged medically.
