The president of the PP and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has decided to place citizen security as one of the pillars of his electoral campaign and, for this purpose, will travel this Wednesday to Barcelona to show his support for those affected by the recent disturbances.
The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested 128 people last weekend, 72 of them minors, for the incidents recorded around the Plaza de Cataluña in Barcelona after an unauthorized gathering spread through social networks.
From the 'popular' ranks, they have criticized the "passivity" of the Government and have reproached the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, for taking two days to publicly condemn what happened. Therefore, with just over a month until the general elections, the leadership of the PP emphasizes that "this climate of insecurity" will end when Feijóo arrives at the Moncloa.
This Tuesday, at a presentation event for the PP list for Madrid in the general elections, Feijóo has guaranteed that he will be "relentless with the violent" if he manages to govern. In his opinion, social peace is a democratic treasure that must be protected because it took a lot to achieve it "and today there are those who play with it."
"Whoever governs has to put out fires. Not throw gasoline. What has happened in Coruña or Barcelona. What is happening in Madrid and last night in Bilbao is not normal. And we are not going to accept it," he assured, accusing the Executive of encouraging "tension" because they are aware that they are "losing."
PP's Criticism of the Government and Marlaska
Both Feijóo and the party's general secretary, Miguel Tellado, have held the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, responsible for being "missing" in the face of the violent episodes recorded in Barcelona, Bilbao, and A Coruña.
In contrast to that attitude, the PP intends to convey the idea that it is addressing the real problems of citizens and that it proposes concrete proposals, in this case in the field of security. In this line, Feijóo announced this Tuesday that he will recover from the Government "the aggravating factor of penalties when disturbances and vandalistic acts occur with faces covered."
Tellado, who traveled to Bilbao this Tuesday, has attributed to Sánchez's Executive "the violence of the extreme left" recorded in the city: "They have lost the street and are throwing in the towel before those who set it on fire," he stated.
Thus, he has denounced that last night "chaos spread in Bilbao by a group of extreme left savages," whom he has labeled as "authentic fascists and criminals," and has added that the Sánchez Government "cannot, does not know how, or does not want to control them." "While violence began to emerge in Bilbao, Sánchez was dancing in Asturias," he criticized, referring to the rally of the President of the Government in that community.
From the national leadership of the PP, they insist that "what Sánchez does not want is to stop in the streets, Feijóo will stop it from the Government of Spain" if he ultimately reaches the Presidency after the general elections.
Tour of the affected businesses in Barcelona
For this reason, this Wednesday the leader of the PP will visit the establishments damaged by the "acts of vandalism" from last Saturday, in order to personally convey his support to the merchants and owners who have suffered damages, according to sources from the party.
During the tour, Feijóo will be accompanied, among others, by the mayor of Badalona and head of the list for Congress for Barcelona, Xavier García Albiol, and by the president of the Popular Party of Catalonia, Alejandro Fernández. At 12:00 hours, a press conference is scheduled in the Plaza de Urquinaona.
