Elecciones generales del 29 de noviembre · Demócrata

Frente Amplio has decided not to register candidates for the Congress of Deputies in Ceuta and Melilla for the general elections on November 29, as stated in the Official State Gazette released this Wednesday.

According to sources from the organization to Europa Press, in the case of Ceuta the formation opts not to compete because its "political reference" in this autonomous city for the Lower House is the party 'Ceuta Ya'.

As for the Senate, Frente Amplio and the Socialist Party are running under the joint banner 'Senado de Progreso'. Both forces agreed to include the neighborhood leader Abdellah Mustafa as an independent candidate for Ceuta. In Melilla the scheme is repeated, with a shared list with the PSOE.

The decision not to run in the two autonomous cities adds to the previous decision by the space led by Ada Colau and Emilio Delgado, together with Chunta Aragonesista, not to put forward a list in the province of Teruel, although they maintained their commitment to be present in the rest of the constituencies.

For its part, Podemos, the other state-wide ballot located to the left of the Socialist Party, will indeed register candidates both in Ceuta and Melilla as well as in Teruel.

Izquierda Unida, part of Frente Amplio, initially showed itself opposed to the absence in Teruel, but finally accepted that the regionalist party that leads the coalition in Aragón should have the final say on the constituencies in which there will be a candidacy.

The campaign spokesperson for Frente Amplio, Pablo Bustinduy, avoided this Monday morning going into details about the lists or the exact number of provinces in which the new space of the parties of the minority wing of the Executive will stand, limiting himself to underline that they will be the option of the alternative left throughout the "length and breadth of the country".

In 2023, the candidacy Sumar, of which Frente Amplio is the heir, did stand for Congress in both autonomous cities. Then it obtained 827 votes in Melilla and 821 in Ceuta.

In this new electoral cycle, Frente Amplio will register lists for Congress in 49 of the 52 constituencies, leaving out Teruel and the two autonomous cities.
