The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, has issued a warning to the 'president' of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, by stating that "reason accompanies the green tide" that this Saturday afternoon has taken to the streets of the three provincial capitals of the Comunitat Valenciana in defense of education. At the same time, she has expressed confidence that for the PP this is "the last school year".
The also Secretary General of the PSPV-PSOE made these statements to the media after participating in the demonstration held in València under the slogan "For the dignity of public education".
"Reason accompanies this green tide that wants our children to have a quality public education. To them --referring to the Consell-- they have one year left, it is the last school year, they have done it wrong and that is why they have to pay for it at the polls. Let us all remember who is not here: here who is not here is the Consell, the PP and Vox, and those of us who are here are those who have always supported public education".
Criticism of Llorca's presence at other protests
Morant has also assured that she "knows" that Pérez Llorca "is very comfortable at all those demonstrations where there are many flags of Spain, even when the little hand is raised or 'Cara al sol' is sung." "But I have not seen him defending public education, nor the defense of women, for example on March 8, nor the defense of the LGTBI collective. In those demonstrations for the rights of citizens, I have never seen him," she has censured.
In contrast to that attitude, she emphasized that the presence of the socialists in the march responds to a "commitment" and the will to be "the alternative" to the regional government, "before Mazón and now Pérez Llorca." "We are here so that the educational community knows that it has a hope for the future," she added.
Accusation of "liar" and reference to Edificant
The leader of the PSPV has also replied to the words of the head of the Consell, who in the morning had denounced the "hypocrisy" of Diana Morant and the spokesperson of Compromís, Joan Baldoví, "for putting themselves at the forefront of the teachers' demonstration after eight years telling them no".
In response, Morant has labeled Llorca as "a liar" and has recalled that she was mayor of Gandia from 2015 until her appointment as minister, a stage in which "in that town the 14 public educational centers were remodeled through Edificant." "And there were no mobilizations --she continued-- because there was real collective negotiation and with respect and what was agreed was applied."
"So when one cuts, it's not that they are not committing to doing new things, it's that they are going backwards and it's normal for the citizens to be against it," she pointed out, referring to the current policies of the Consell.
Start of the school year and criticisms of the Consell's management
Finally, the minister has considered that it is "impossible for the school year to start better than it ended because this summer what they have done is worsen the system: to the need for classroom air conditioning they have sent between five or six fans, they have dared to approve what they call educational inspection and we call ideological police with which we do not know very well what they intend and to top it off they have appealed to the Supreme Court what the municipalities had won to continue building schools and institutes with the Edificant Plan."
