The President of the Government and PSOE candidate for re-election in the next general elections, Pedro Sánchez, has presented the vote and citizen mobilization as the best antidote against what he defines as a democratic regression. In a relaxed tone, he has said: "Even Pope Leo XIV has voted," in reference to his participation in the midterm elections in the United States.

These statements were made this Saturday during a pre-campaign event held at Refugio 1 of the Moll de la Costa del Port de Tarragona, where he was supported by the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa; the Minister of Industry and head of the list to the Congress for Barcelona, Jordi Hereu; the mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, and the head of the list of the PSC to the Congress for Tarragona, Ione Montalvo. According to data provided by the PSC, about 2,000 people attended the event.

In his remarks, Sánchez has insisted that high turnout will be key to stopping the right and far right: "If we vote in large numbers, we send Feijóo and Abascal home, so go out and vote, win, and govern for four more years," he has proclaimed. The socialist leader maintains that the "wave of the far right" will end up deflating in Spain, in the same way, as he has recalled, that it already happened in Brazil and in the United States.
