The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will assume this Friday the direction, remotely and by videoconference, of a new extraordinary session of the Monitoring Committee on the situation in Ceuta. This has been communicated by the Minister of Territorial Policy and "single command" in the autonomous city, Ángel Víctor Torres, after the first meeting of this body held this Wednesday in Ceuta itself.
In the initial meeting, ten ministers participated telematically, along with the president of Ceuta, Juan Vivas, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, and the Government delegate in the autonomous city, as well as other officials from the administrations involved in managing the migration crisis.
Torres detailed that on Friday Sánchez will lead the Committee from the Palacio de la Moncloa, while Saiz or he himself will remain in Ceuta to closely follow the meeting. He also announced that the body will meet regularly once a week and will hold "the extraordinary meetings that are necessary," like the one called for this Friday.
In parallel, the working groups will meet twice a week in order to delve into the measures underway and provide information "with absolute transparency" about the evolution of the situation in the autonomous city.
The minister emphasized that this first session of the Committee has served to share the actions already implemented and the proposals from each administration, highlighting that a "constructive" and "coordinated" work has been developed.
In the same vein, Torres stressed that the body integrates the central Government and the Ceuta Executive, and defended the importance of acting "hand in hand" to recover "normality" in Ceuta as soon as possible.
The minister also indicated that in the meeting a common objective was set: to ensure that "all the people who stayed in Ceuta from the 31st return," as long as that return occurs "in accordance with the law."
To conclude, Torres has called for "understanding" from the citizens while the necessary actions are carried out to address the crisis. "What we are doing here is working with different institutions from loyalty and collaboration," he emphasized.
