The bishop of Bilbao, Joseba Segura, expressed this Sunday his regret that, "once again, there is a violent phenomenon" in Euskadi, in reference to the incidents recorded last Monday in the streets of the Biscayan capital. At the same time, he has underlined that, probably, it is a situation "different from the one suffered" for decades, alluding to ETA violence, and has insisted on the need to address "people's concerns", calling for "justice" and for conflicts to be channeled through dialogue and "never" through violence.
The Feast of All Saints takes place this Sunday in Bilbao in a context of a return to normality, after the unease generated during the week by the call on social media by the 'Blocus' movement to promote looting and riots in the city, which led numerous businesses to lower their shutters in the afternoon and reinforce the protection of their storefronts.
In statements to Europa Press, made before the celebration of the mass in the chapel of the Bilbao cemetery, Segura has emphasized that neither the Bishopric nor those who share the faith "can be oblivious to the fact that, once again, in our land, there is a violent phenomenon and, probably, it is a phenomenon different from the violence we have suffered for decades".
A SOCIETY FOR ALL
"But it is also a phenomenon that makes one think that, in some way, we have to first address the concerns of some people and, in any case, invite everyone to ensure that problems are never resolved using violence, but rather are resolved in dialogue and trying, in some way, to build that society in which there is space for everyone", the prelate has pointed out, insisting on the need to strengthen coexistence.
To conclude, the bishop of Bilbao reiterated his aspiration that "there be justice so that no reasons for violence are generated", defending that only in this way will it be possible to avoid new episodes of this type in the future.
