The government spokesperson minister, Elma Saiz, called this Tuesday for putting an end to the "escalation" of insults and physical violence, after expressing her support for the government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, who denounced having been slapped by a PP councilor from Ruesga.
"In democracy, obviously, one can disagree, but what is not acceptable, in any way, is any kind of violence," Elma Saiz emphasized at the press conference after the Council of Ministers, insisting that "there is no place for insults or verbal or physical violence".
Beforehand, through a statement, the PSOE had addressed directly the PP leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to demand that he stop "now" the "violent drift" of his party, following the slap that a ‘popular’ councilor from Ruesga allegedly gave the government delegate in Cantabria, the socialist Pedro Casares, as well as the appearance of an image of a coffin with President Pedro Sánchez's face in Hoyocasero (Ávila).
Saiz conveyed her solidarity to the government delegate in Cantabria over events that she described as "gravísimo" and issued a warning to all political parties. "We political leaders have to be especially exemplary," she stated.
In this regard, the government spokesperson called for "stopping any kind of escalation that points to, that supports, that stays silent in the face of any kind of violence". "And that is what I demand of all political leaders," she added.
Pedro Casares filed a complaint this Monday before the Civil Guard against the PP councilor in the Ruesga Town Hall, David Setién, for an alleged physical and verbal assault during the Arredondo livestock fair, held this Sunday, November 1, while he was making an official visit.
According to the complaint, the also general secretary of the PSOE in the region maintains that the councilor approached him to reproach his stance on wolf protection and, at that moment, slapped him, which forced the escort accompanying him to intervene.
For his part, the PP leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has stated that the ‘popular’ councilor has denied the assault, although he has confirmed that an internal investigation has been opened from ‘Génova’ in order to clarify what happened.
