The Partido Popular has informed this Thursday that it has made available to citizens a book of condolences at its national headquarters in Madrid to pay tribute and "honor the memory" of the president of the Fundación CEOE and former Minister of Employment and Social Security under PP governments, Fátima Báñez, who died in the railway accident recorded this Wednesday in the province of Toledo.

"Citizens who want to pay tribute to Fátima Báñez have from this moment a book of condolences at the national headquarters of the Partido Popular", the national leadership of the 'populars' explained in a message on its 'X' profile, collected by Europa Press.

According to the PP, this book of condolences is conceived as a "space for recollection and to honor the memory of someone who was part of the history" of the 'populars' and of Spain.

In the photographs released by the party, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, can be seen signing in that book of condolences, after a few hours earlier he had published on 'X' a message in which he lamented the death of the former minister.

The former Employment official, 59 years old, was traveling in one of the seats of the train of the company Iryo that was struck this Wednesday by an AVE of Renfe. Both trains had departed from Madrid bound for Sevilla, a city to which Báñez was heading to take part in a business event organized by the Andalusian employers' association.

Since the incident occurred, both the CEOE employers' association and the PP leadership had been awaiting news about the former minister, seeing hopes fade as the hours went by.

"The entire Partido Popular mourns her loss together with her husband, her children and all the people who loved her. We will honor her memory and that of all the victims. May she rest in peace", the leader of the 'populars' has expressed.
