The PSOE has decided to suspend the pre-campaign events of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, which were scheduled for this weekend in Cádiz and A Coruña, following the declaration of official mourning approved by the Executive as a result of the railway accident that has left, for the moment, 69 dead.
In Cádiz, Sánchez was going to lead a rally this Saturday, October 31, while the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, had announced his participation in a meeting with supporters in the same Andalusian city, scheduled for the same day the accident occurred and which was immediately canceled.
Likewise, the Socialists were preparing another event for the candidate for reelection during the weekend in La Coruña, but in Ferraz they have opted to cancel the entire agenda and reactivate the pre-campaign later, according to Socialist sources tell Europa Press.
Shortly after confirming the seriousness of the accident, the party had already canceled another event that was going to be held this Thursday 29 in Vitoria, with the aim of focusing on emergency management, as explained the day before from the federal leadership.
The "terrible accident" in Urda (Toledo), in Sánchez's own words, has led most parties to halt their campaign activities ahead of the general elections on November 29, except for Vox and its leader Santiago Abascal, who have kept their agenda unchanged.
Sánchez, in the midst of a pre-campaign offensive
Sánchez was already fully immersed in the race to the polls since the beginning of October, with an intense agenda of events with supporters and appearances in the media and less conventional formats.
In these weeks, the president has visited Dos Hermanas (Seville), Ponferrada (León), Zaragoza, Fuenlabrada (Madrid), Valladolid, Burgos, Granada and Gijón. In addition, he participated in the TVE program "La Revuelta" and in the podcast "Keep it cutre", as part of the strategy to connect with the youngest electorate.
The Socialist leadership had designed a campaign with a positive tone, with an almost festive tone in the face of the "darkness" and the "fear" that, in its view, the alliance between PP and Vox projects, an approach that now must be readjusted.
At one of the rallies, Sánchez appeared by surprise alongside his wife, Begoña Gómez, awaiting trial for alleged corruption crimes, defended her innocence, told her that he loved her, and both kissed on stage and after that gesture launched the campaign "La Fuerza del Amor".
