The Tenants' Union has demanded during the assembly held this Tuesday that a general strike be called against the housing crisis, with the aim that the protests go beyond the camp in Puerta del Sol and the marches planned for this Saturday.
"Now there is a path," said Alicia del Río, spokesperson for the Union, referring to the option of a strike in a direct message to the union centers. A proposal that was also defended by Valeria Racu, another of the visible spokespersons of the organization leading the mobilization.
The first assembly held in the emblematic Madrid square took place amid chants of "we're not leaving, we're staying" that interrupted Racu, while the decrees approved this Tuesday by the Government in the Council of Ministers and the return of Maricarmen to her home were analyzed.
"A general strike is needed now," was another of the slogans most repeated by the attendees at the Assembly driven by the Union, which has demanded to maintain pressure in the streets so that the demonstrations organized in different cities are "massive."
From the organization, they have insisted that "this has just begun" and have called on all present to take to the streets this Saturday and not to cling to "a tent," but to "a struggle" in defense of those who live on rent.
The two spokespersons have highlighted the "social mobilization" that, they claim, has "forced" the Government to approve the two royal decrees that include measures "wrenched" from the Socialist Party and Sumar "thanks" to the protests that have already accumulated more than 78 hours in Madrid.
