The Minister of Territorial Policy and "single command" in Ceuta, Ángel Víctor Torres, has indicated that, "including adults and minors," there are still around 3,000 immigrants living on the streets of the autonomous city. He has pointed out that the definitive solution will require "doing works in a large space," but he has expressed his intention to be able to offer them shelter "as soon as possible."
"We have sanitation problems at times, last-minute works, but we aspire to have everyone relocated in very few weeks and to start with the return procedures," Torres defended in an interview with "TVE," reported by Europa Press.
In this context, he has announced that another additional location will be enabled, supported by the Royal Decree, "to ensure that everyone can be in those spaces" and has specified that, among the "actions" planned for this week, women migrants will be moved to ensure they have "a much more suitable space."
Torres has also detailed that between 150 and 200 migrants voluntarily leave Ceuta every day. From that figure, he insisted that only those who have "international protection" have some "hope" of staying in Spain, along with minors who cannot be reunited with their families.
"Those who cannot be reunited, logically the will of the Government of Spain is that they be in the rest of Spanish territory because otherwise there would continue to be a situation of overcrowding in the city," Torres declared, emphasizing that the law "does not require" the consent of the destination autonomous community for the relocation of minors, referring to the territories that "refuse to host those children."
Criticism from Torres to PP and Vox for the management of the crisis
On another note, the "single command" for the Ceuta crisis has censured that "there are those who want this crisis to become entrenched" and has emphasized that "it is not understood" that PP and Vox "have voted that they do not want minors on the Peninsula."
"To assert, as representatives of those two political formations also do, that they can be returned immediately, is not only recklessness or imprudence, but it puts President Vivas in a bad position, who has said that they cannot be returned overnight," he substantiated.
