Carlos Alcaraz has won this Sunday, November 1, the ATP 500 in Vienna for the first time in his career after defeating Álex de Miñaur 6-1 and 6-4 in the final of the Austrian tournament. The Murcian tennis player, 23 years old, has closed an impeccable week on the indoor hard court of the Wiener Stadthalle, where he did not drop a single set in the five matches played. With this victory, the Spaniard adds his fourth title of the 2026 season, after his triumphs in the Australian Open, Doha and Tokyo, and confirms his good form in the final stretch of the tennis calendar.

The Spaniard faced the final with a particularly favorable record against De Miñaur, whom he had defeated in their previous six meetings. The seventh victory has come with one of his most overwhelming performances against the Australian, who could scarcely find answers to the Murcian’s game. Alcaraz took the first set by a clear 6-1 and maintained his superiority in the second set, resolved 6-4, to close out the match in two sets and lift a trophy that was still missing from his list of honors.

The title also represents a sporting revenge for his previous experiences in Vienna. Until this year, his best result in the tournament had been the semifinals in 2021, when he was eliminated by the German Alexander Zverev. Five years later, Alcaraz has returned to the Austrian capital to complete the path that then remained unfinished and become the new champion of a competition belonging to the ATP 500 category.

Alcaraz dominates the Vienna final against Álex de Miñaur

The Murcian imposed his game from the first set and left the Australian with little room to compete for the title. The initial 6-1 reflects the difference between the two during the opening of the match, in which Alcaraz managed to translate onto the scoreboard the superiority he had also shown throughout the rest of the week. De Miñaur, one of the fastest players on the circuit and known for his ability to return difficult shots, failed to stop the Spaniard.

The second set has been more balanced, but Alcaraz has maintained enough control to prevent the match from going to a third set. The decisive 6-4 has allowed him to celebrate his first title in Vienna without having lost a single set throughout the entire championship, a display of consistency especially significant on an indoor surface where margins are usually small and serve takes on considerable importance.

For De Miñaur, the defeat brings to an end a week in which he had achieved one of his most outstanding results of the season. The Australian had eliminated Alexander Zverev in the semifinals by 6-4, 1-6 and 7-6 (4), a highly significant victory against the German, who had arrived at the tournament as one of the main title contenders. However, in the final he ran into an Alcaraz who once again made the difference in the decisive moments.

A perfect tournament: five victories and no sets lost

Carlos Alcaraz has built his first title in Vienna with five consecutive victories and without conceding a single set. His run began against the Russian Karen Khachanov, whom he defeated by 6-4 and 7-6 (5), and continued in the round of 16 against the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, overcome by 6-1 and 7-6 (11). In the quarterfinals, the Spaniard eliminated the American Tommy Paul by 6-4 and 7-6 (2), before facing one of his most demanding rivals in the semifinals.

In that penultimate round, Alcaraz prevailed over Daniil Medvedev by 6-4 and 7-6 (2) in a match that lasted 96 minutes. The victory had special significance because the Russian had beaten him in the semifinals of Indian Wells and arrived in Austria after stringing together seven consecutive wins. The man from Murcia managed to stop that streak and reach his first final in Vienna, the 37th of his professional career on the ATP circuit.

The final against De Miñaur has completed a path in which Alcaraz has demonstrated a notable ability to resolve the moments of greatest equality. Four of his five matches included a tiebreak, always favorable to the Spaniard, before closing the tournament with a wider victory against the Australian. The result confirms the Murcian's adaptation to indoor hard courts at one of the most important moments of the year.

Fourth title of 2026 and seventh victory against De Miñaur

The conquest of Vienna raises to four Alcaraz's titles during the 2026 season, in which he had already been crowned champion of the Australian Open, Doha and Tokyo. The Spaniard also reached the final of Montecarlo, where he lost to the Italian Jannik Sinner, and now adds a new success in the fifth final he has played this year.

The victory also broadens his particular dominance over Álex de Miñaur. Alcaraz has won the seven official matches he has played against the Australian, a series that includes the finals of Queen's in 2023 and Róterdam in 2025, as well as their encounters in the Barcelona Open, the ATP Finals and the Australian Open of this same year. The triumph in Vienna extends that favorable statistic and consolidates the Murcian's confidence against one of the most competitive players on the circuit.

The title also allows the Spaniard to add 500 points corresponding to the tournament category, although its definitive impact on the ATP ranking will depend on the points he has to defend compared to the previous season. Alcaraz arrived in Vienna as world number three, in a stretch of the calendar in which the results acquire special importance with a view to the ATP Finals.

Alcaraz closes Vienna with his sights set on the ATP Finals

The triumph in Austria strengthens Carlos Alcaraz's feelings before facing the last great objective of the season: the ATP Finals, which will bring together the eight best players of the year. The Spaniard already had his qualification for the masters tournament secured before playing the final in Vienna, but now arrives with a new title and a series of positive results on indoor court.

The Austrian championship has also served to confirm the recovery of his best competitive level after the physical problems that marked part of his season. After returning to competition in September, the Murcian has managed to expand his list of titles in Tokyo and Vienna, two tournaments played under different conditions that have allowed him to regain continuity in his game.

With the Vienna trophy, Alcaraz once again demonstrates his ability to compete for titles on different surfaces and stages. The Spaniard closes a week without defeats or sets lost, extends his perfect record of victories against De Miñaur, and adds a new city to his list of conquests. His next challenge will be to carry that performance to the ATP Finals and finish the season with another notable result against the main players on the circuit.
