Kylian Mbappé has broken his silence about the controversy over the support shirt for Ceuta that Real Madrid wore before their last match and has rejected that his decision not to display the slogan "We are all caballas" meant a distancing from solidarity with the people of Ceuta.

"People may think that I am against the people of Ceuta, but no, absolutely not," the forward has assured in an interview with Diario AS, after the criticism received for his behavior during the tribute.

Mbappé has stated that he is "100% with the people of Ceuta", but has explained that he wanted to extend his gesture to the migrant people who have suffered during the crisis. "I didn't want to prioritize sufferings (...) I wanted to have a gesture and thought for all the immigrants who have lost their lives and who are also in harsh conditions," he has pointed out.

Mbappé explains why he did not show the slogan

The words of the footballer come after the controversy that arose from the attitude of Mbappé and Vinícius during the act of support for Ceuta. The Real Madrid players received the same shirt as the rest of their teammates, but both wore it in such a way that the message "We are all caballas" was not visible.

Mbappé has now given his explanation about that decision. According to his words, his intention was not to establish differences between the suffering of the people of Ceuta and that of the migrants, but to express his solidarity with both.

The Frenchman has insisted that he maintains his support for Ceuta and has framed his position in a broader concern for those going through difficult situations. "It makes me very sad to see that in the world. I am a guy who wants the best for the world we have," he has declared.
