Livestock farmers, veterinarians and technical staff will meet next November 6 in Logrosán (Cáceres) to take part in the 1st Extensive Livestock Farming and Dehesa Conference, a professional forum focused on this production model and on the challenges faced by the sector.
The initiative, driven by Gregorio Cidoncha with the support of the Logrosán City Council and the involvement of the local association El Cercón del Toro, will be held at the municipality's House of Culture and will bring together specialists from the livestock, veterinary, technical and institutional fields.
During the conference, matters of "special interest" for extensive livestock farming will be addressed, including the vaccination protocol in suckler cows, strategies to improve the productivity and profitability of farms, the implementation of forage crops, the sustainable management of the dehesa and generational renewal in the countryside.
Among the speakers are professionals such as Margarita Barreto Jiménez, cattle technical specialist at Laboratorios Hipra; Carmen Arroba, veterinarian at Advacas; Alejandro Martín Alonso, manager of Asedagro S. L.; and María José Castro, head of the cattle technical service at Carne de Heus Nutrición Animal.
The program also includes a round table focused on generational renewal, in which María Fernández-Trejo, extensive livestock farmer and vice president of Copreca, linked to the Committee of Young Cooperativists of Extremadura; Juan Antonio Madruga Chamizo, agricultural engineer and young extensive sheep farmer; and José María Morano Abril, rural veterinarian with extensive experience in the Las Villuercas region, will take part.
The participation of the local association El Cercón del Toro will serve to highlight the role of associationism in rural areas and its close relationship with livestock activity and life in the villages.
The institutional closing of the conference will be given by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Environment of the Junta de Extremadura, Juan José García, according to the program. The official opening will take place at 10,00 hours and will be led by the mayor of Logrosán, Julio Roldán, according to the organization in a press release.
With this first edition, the organizers aim to consolidate a meeting point and exchange of experiences among professionals, placing emphasis on the economic viability of farms, the protection of natural heritage and the future prospects of rural areas.
