Muriel Wines, owner of brands such as Viña Muriel, Conde de los Andes, or Valdecuriel, has incorporated the brand Marqués de la Concordia along with the set of linked trademark registrations into its portfolio. The operation was closed within the framework of the public auction held at the end of July as part of the liquidation process of the owner of Federico Paternina, Lagunilla, Marqués de la Concordia, or Rioja Santiago, among other firms.

In detail, the transaction was carried out within the bankruptcy procedure of the companies United Wineries Estates, S.A., United Wineries, S.A., and Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines, S.L. As explained by IAG Auction, designated by the bankruptcy administration as the specialized firm responsible for managing the sale, the process took place "online" at the end of July.

Between 2019 and 2021, the portfolio of brands of the Grupo Marqués de la Concordia recorded sales of 18.49 million euros in the Denomination of Origin Rioja. Within this set, Federico Paternina acts as the main axis, concentrating around 52% of the turnover, while Lagunilla contributes about 29% of the total.

Another pillar of the portfolio is its strong foreign orientation: 41% of sales come from exports, with a notable weight in the Nordic countries, which represent 27.72% of international sales, and in Central Europe, which concentrates 21.93%.

Muriel Wines has indicated in a statement that this purchase represents a "new step" in the growth and diversification strategy they have been developing in recent years and opens a "new stage" for a brand with a relevant trajectory and recognition.

The CEO of Muriel Wines, Javier Murúa, has expressed his satisfaction with the operation. "The incorporation of Marqués de la Concordia represents a new step in the growth that Muriel Wines has been steadily developing over the last few years. We are incorporating a brand with an important trajectory and recognition, and we do so from the strength of a group that today has a consolidated structure, a diversified portfolio, and the capacity to continue growing," he stated.

The Rioja winery has pointed out that, after the acquisition, Marqués de la Concordia "will maintain its own identity." "From now on, we will work on getting to know the asset in depth and analyzing its main opportunities," they explained.

In this scenario, the company begins a "new stage" with this project, which it faces with the intention of respecting the identity of the owner Federico Paternina, Lagunilla, Marqués de la Concordia, valuing its history and working to develop all its future potential.

Muriel Wines has set as a goal to reinforce the heritage built around Marqués de la Concordia and to deploy all its possibilities from a long-term vision.

The winery has recalled that the origin of the denomination Marqués de la Concordia dates back to the title granted in 1812 by Fernando VII to José Fernando de Abascal, Viceroy of Peru, and has emphasized that its history presents a "singular parallelism" with Conde de los Andes, one of its brands, since both titles were granted by Fernando VII to former viceroys of Peru and, over time, gave name to brands linked to the wine sector.

Currently, Muriel Wines has eight wineries and 11 brands, and markets its wines in more than 50 countries, given that export accounts for approximately 80% of its business.

In this context of expansion, Muriel Wines, S.L.U., its marketing company, closed the fiscal year 2026 with a cumulative increase in revenue of 9.75% in the period from July 31, 2024, to July 31, 2026.

Muriel Wines has emphasized that this integration occurs at a "moment of transformation" for the wine sector, conditioned by the evolution of consumption habits, pressure on costs and margins, and changes in the markets.

In light of this scenario, the winery considers that dimension, diversification, and adaptability are becoming increasingly decisive. "For us, growing also means being closer to the consumer and understanding what they seek from wine. The incorporation of Marqués de la Concordia responds to this vision and reinforces our goal of continuing to evolve and diversify our offering," it has emphasized.
