The Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, has reiterated her request for a "strong and specific" European fishing fund with the aim of securing the future of the entire sea-industry chain.

The regional official made this claim during her speech at the opening of the XIII International Conference on the Future of Fishing, organized by the Fishing Armadores Cooperative of the Port of Vigo (ARVI). There she emphasized that European fishing is going through a "decisive" moment and requires a community financial framework that supports its viability and capacity for transformation.

Villaverde has argued that the European Union must maintain a specific fund endowed with a "robust" budget for fishing and aquaculture in the next multiannual financial framework 2028-2034, continuing the current scheme of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund.

In this regard, the Minister has explained that the Xunta is strengthening its activity in Brussels in order to prevent regions with a high dependence on the sea from suffering setbacks.
