The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers of Castilla-La Mancha has announced a concentration in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) on October 8 to protest "against the historic increase in fuel prices," which is particularly affecting agricultural diesel, "while energy companies keep increasing their profits."
The agricultural organization warns of the "critical" situation currently suffered by farmers and ranchers in the autonomous community. To the increasingly severe consequences of climate change is now added the unprecedented rise in fuel, whose price has gone from 0.93 euros per liter at the beginning of the year to reach highs of 1.68 in recent weeks.
As UPA emphasizes, this increase coincides "with the end of the harvest campaign and the beginning of the sowing of extensive crops, a time when the sector concentrates 40% of its annual energy consumption," they have indicated, which further aggravates the production costs of the Castilian-Manchego countryside.
