The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has issued a direct warning to the central Government of Pedro Sánchez this Tuesday, reminding him that they are still "governing" and that he has "47 days" to execute the Canary Agenda that was signed, warning that if it is not fulfilled, the "absolute trust that was maintained with those who signed it would be broken."

Clavijo made this statement during the Plenary session this Tuesday, in response to a question raised by Raúl Acosta (AHI) about the real margin left to materialize the State's commitments with the archipelago, despite the recent call for general elections.

In the debate, the existing concern in islands like El Hierro and La Gomera was brought to the table due to the lack of progress on the 60% IRPF bonus and on the Public Service Obligation (OSP) maritime between El Hierro and La Palma, matters that, as was recalled, were included in "that Canary decree" and about which "we have not heard anything yet."

In this regard, Clavijo emphasized that the state Executive "is not in office," that it "continues to govern," and that, even with the electoral advance, "there is a permanent deputation" operational, so that "if you want, you can" fulfill what was agreed. In this context, he reiterated that the Government "has 47 days left" to respond to the list of priorities that the Canary Islands have conveyed.

Among those priorities, he highlighted the need to sign the extension of the road agreement for four more years, a procedure that, he emphasized, does not require the approval of any decree law nor subject it to parliamentary validation, but "simply signing," since the allocations "are in the budgets, because they are in the 23 budgets, which have been extended." He also recalled that the State already has the regulatory text prepared by the legal services of the autonomous community to modify the legislation and "limit the purchase of housing to foreigners in the Canary Islands."

Furthermore, he stressed that the central Government has the position of the Canary Islands on the co-management model of the airports of the archipelago, as well as the proposal for La Palma and Tenerife to be the headquarters of the future installations of the Volcanological Research Center.

Clavijo has specified that in Madrid there is also the request for the "200 million" that the regional government has advanced for the reconstruction of La Palma after the volcanic eruption, the claim for the 60% tax rebate on personal income tax for the fiscal year 2027, the "105 million" allocated to the housing plan, and the measures to ensure both the free public transport and the maintenance of the 75% discount for residents on air and sea travel.

The head of the Canary Government has reiterated his "willingness" to collaborate with the State during these "47 days" so that the Canary Agenda is executed in its entirety. "If not fulfilled, it would break the absolute trust that was maintained with those who signed it," he emphasized.
