The Comuns have warned that they will register alone in the Parlament their initiative to veto speculative housing purchases if they do not reach an understanding with the PSC and the Govern before October 30, the date on which the deadline to agree on the amendments to the law they promoted before the summer concludes and which was called into question by the Consell de Garanties Estatutàries (CGE).
"We will present the law, because it is necessary," warned the president of the Comuns in the Parlament to the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, whom she reproached for proposing a fix to the regulation and hiding behind formal arguments.
In recent days, the Govern and the left-wing groups in the Chamber have held meetings to try to channel the development of the decree after the setback from the CGE, but the formula proposed by the Executive to circumvent the objections of the consultative body has not satisfied the Comuns.
"You are proposing to us a kind of fix that does not end one of the main problems we have with housing, which is the hoarding of apartments in few hands. It's the same as always," lamented Albiach.
The leader of the Comuns emphasized that the text they agreed upon had the backing of a team of experts chosen by both her group and the Govern, and insisted that the opinion of the CGE is not binding.
Illa's Commitment to the Decree
Illa replied that he shares the purpose that the Comuns pursue, and that the CGE itself does not dispute it either, but pointed out that the consultative body warns of "several issues, not minor, that must be done differently" from a legal point of view.
He reiterated to Albiach his willingness to push this decree forward, although he demanded to act with seriousness and prudence: "What I want is for this to go ahead and for it to go ahead with guarantees that it is not a toast to the sun."
