The spokesperson of Compromís in Les Corts, Joan Baldoví, has attacked the 'former president' of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, whom he reproaches for trying to "make believe that a timely alert would not have saved lives" on the day of the dana of October 29, 2024, which caused 231 deaths in the province of Valencia. In this context, he has directly questioned him about whether "one can have more shamelessness."
Baldoví has expressed this in statements sent to the media, after Mazón has presented, through his defense, a document before the judge of Catarroja who is instructing the case regarding the management of the dana. In that document, it is requested that it be clarified whether there is any line of criminal investigation open or pending regarding a possible responsibility for his action "with sufficient expression of its factual content," in order to know it and be able to propose the exculpatory evidence he considers necessary. Furthermore, he asks that, in case there is "no other fact, action, indication, or line of investigation," an express record of this be made.
The legal representation of Mazón also raises that the key issue in this procedure is to determine whether it can be sustained "with the degree of certainty required in criminal law" that the victims –with identification of each of the deceased persons– would have survived the dana had they received "a few minutes earlier the same message that was sent at 20:11 recommending avoiding travel."
From Baldoví's perspective, "once again, Mazón continues to laugh at the Valencians and the victims" of the dana. He recalls that "that one who was in a private room of a restaurant while people were dying, now wants to make us believe that a timely alert would not have saved lives," an attitude he has harshly criticized.
In this line, the spokesperson has again asked the 'former president' of the Generalitat if "one can have more shamelessness" and has added that, in his opinion, it is also "a true shame" that the PP and the current head of the Consell, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, "keep him as a deputy, privileged, receiving public money and with the privileges of a former president."
