Vodafone Intelligent Solutions (VOIS), the technological and shared services unit of Vodafone, has announced its intention to initiate a redundancy plan (ERE) in Spain that could involve the departure of up to 180 employees, which represents around 20% of a workforce close to 900 workers in the country, according to what UGT communicated this Tuesday in an informative note.
UGT, the majority union in the R&D company that remained integrated into Vodafone Group after the sale of Vodafone Spain to Zegona, has expressed its outright rejection of the adjustment and has denounced the "continuous destruction of jobs" that, in its view, the workforces in the telecommunications sector have been suffering.
The union organization has explained that it is still waiting to study in detail the explanatory memorandum and the technical report that the company must deliver at the beginning of the formal consultation period with the representation of the workers.
Even so, the union believes that, considering the current workload of VOIS, the proposed reduction of staff is "in principle, unnecessary and hardly justifiable."
"From UGT we will face this process with rigor and good faith in negotiations, defending the interests of all workers," emphasized the union central, which has set as a priority "to achieve the withdrawal of the measure or, failing that, to minimize the impact proposed by the company as much as possible."
In the event that the collective dismissal is ultimately maintained, UGT has emphasized that it will focus its efforts on obtaining "the best possible conditions" and maximizing economic compensation for the workers who are affected.
At the same time, the union has insisted that it will continue to defend employment and demand "real alternatives" against a dynamic of job destruction that, it has warned, continues to impact "severely" on the entire telecommunications sector.
