The PSPV has accused the Consell of the Generalitat of "having once again increased the price of public housing" (VPP) "in the middle of the holiday period," placing it at "prices that make it increasingly inaccessible for families, young people, and middle-class Valencians." "Pérez Llorca makes VPP for the rich and for real estate developers," the socialist formation states in reference to the president of the Consell.
The reaction comes after the resolution published this Friday in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat (DOGV), in which the standard value of the module that sets the maximum sale price of VPP is updated for 2026. The Consell approves a 7% increase and establishes a maximum value of 2,568 euros per square meter of usable area, "provided to the accredited evolution of construction costs."
In a statement, the deputy spokesperson for the socialist group in Les Corts, Mª José Salvador, has condemned that the Consell, "with full 'agosticity' and malice," chose August 14, the eve of the holiday on the 15th and in the middle of vacation, to push forward a measure that, in her opinion, means "once again increasing" the maximum price of protected housing. She considers it "another example of the lack of transparency and sensitivity of this Consell: while thousands of Valencians are worried about not being able to access housing, the PP takes advantage of the holiday period to raise the price of protected housing again."
Salvador reminds that this is the second upward revision of the module since the PP Consell introduced in 2024 the so-called dynamic module, which was then set at 2,400 euros per square meter. "We already warned that this dynamic module opened the door to new increases and today it is confirmed: in less than two years they have increased it again and we are already at 2,568 euros per square meter."
According to the socialist leader, "the protected housing policy of the Popular Party and Pérez Llorca is at the antipodes of guaranteeing the right to affordable housing. They are making it so that what should serve for a person who cannot access the free market to have a home is increasingly expensive and, therefore, more inaccessible."
In their understanding, with these increases the PP transforms protected housing into an option "increasingly more protected for the Valencians, unless you are rich, and more accessible for the interests of the promoters": "It cannot be that the solution of the Consell to the increase in costs is to permanently pass the bill to those who need protected housing."
Criticism of the VIVE plan
The PSPV deputy also lashes out at the VIVE plan, which she qualifies as "a disaster from the point of view of public housing policy": "The PP uses public land and public resources to favor private promoters through formulas like the swap and, at the same time, increases the price of the homes that should be destined for those who have the most difficulties accessing the market."
"The Generalitat cannot use the public to guarantee private business and then call a home affordable when its price cannot be assumed by thousands of Valencian families," emphasized the socialist parliamentarian.
For this reason, the Valencian socialists demand Llorca to annul this new increase and "radically change their housing policy." "Protected housing must be there to protect those who cannot access free housing, not to guarantee the margin of the promoters. From the PSPV we will continue to defend a public housing policy that prioritizes the right of the Valencians to have a dignified and affordable home and not private interests," they conclude.
