The National Police has announced the sentence imposed on a man of Spanish nationality and a Venezuelan woman for crimes related to the facilitation of prostitution for profit and for injuries, following an investigation carried out by the Unit Against Immigration Networks and Document Fraud (Ucrif) of Melilla.
A spokesperson for the Superior Police Headquarters of Melilla explained that the inquiries began in May 2022, when the agents became aware of a serious incident in a private home located in the Hipódromo neighborhood, where prostitution was allegedly taking place.
As a result of this assault, a woman of Colombian nationality had to be evacuated to a hospital due to the severity of the injuries sustained on her face and other areas of her body. According to the same source, the investigation concluded that the two now convicted were making financial gains from the prostitution exercised by two women in a residence in the city.
The Seventh Section of the Provincial Court of Málaga, based in Melilla, has imposed different prison sentences and fines on both defendants for the acts committed against the Colombian woman, who, according to police proceedings, was sexually exploited for the economic benefit of the convicted.
The work of the UCRIF made it possible to clarify both the circumstances of the assault and the dynamics of sexual exploitation, and allowed for the responsible parties to be brought before the judicial authority, which has resulted in the sentences issued by the Provincial Court. The National Police has emphasized that this operation is part of the fight against sexual exploitation networks and the pursuit of those who profit economically from the prostitution of others.
