The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT Madrid) will organize this Sunday on the Paseo del Prado, in front of the Royal Botanical Garden, an exhibition made up of 11 historic buses from its collection, along with an electric bus and one of the new cabins of the future Cable Car, as part of the European Mobility Week 2026.
This exhibition will offer a journey through the evolution of public transport in Madrid through several of the vehicles that were part of the municipal fleet, combined with models that incorporated technical innovations and solutions that symbolize the present and future of mobility in the capital, the City Council detailed in an informative note.
Among the units that can be seen, the two-story GUY Arab III, acquired in 1948 and considered the oldest vehicle in the EMT Museum collection, stands out. Models such as the 1966 Pegaso 6035-A, the first articulated bus to circulate in Madrid and known as "the caterpillar" due to its length, will also be exhibited.
The exhibition will also include a 1971 Pegaso 6035, one of the most representative models of EMT Madrid, and a 1973 Pegaso-Sava 5720, the first vehicle of the municipal company equipped with air conditioning.
Also part of the exhibition will be a 1980 Pegaso 6038, nicknamed "oil tanker" for its durability, of which EMT Madrid acquired nearly 900 units; a 1987 Pegaso 5317, intended for the microbus network, and a 1988 DAF SB220, the first model manufactured outside Spain incorporated into the municipal fleet.
The tour will be completed with a 1989 Pegaso 6424, which came standard with air conditioning, automatic transmission, and a rear engine; a 1991 Pegaso 6425A, belonging to a new generation of articulated buses; a 1994 MAN NL202F, the first low-floor model of EMT Madrid with a ramp for wheelchairs, and a 1995 Mercedes O405, also low-floor and produced in Germany.
An electric bus and the cabin of the new Cable Car
Alongside the historic vehicles, EMT Madrid will exhibit the electric Irizar ieTRAM, which has been in service since 2023 on the first electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line in Madrid.
The vehicle, with a design inspired by trams and capacity for up to 100 passengers, represents the incorporation of electric mobility into public transport in Madrid.
The exhibition will also include one of the 47 new cabins of the future Cable Car of Madrid. The new cabins will cover the route between the terminals of Pintor Rosales and Cerro Garabitas.
