The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has called this Wednesday for a complete and independent review of the entire Spanish railway network following the train accident reported in Urda (Toledo). In a public appearance from the PP national headquarters, on Génova street in Madrid, the opposition leader has argued that citizens have the right to know the safety conditions of the infrastructure on which they travel and to know where the committed economic resources for its maintenance and modernization have been allocated.
Feijóo has placed attention to the victims and their families as an immediate priority. He has asked for respect for their pain, has conveyed a message of solidarity with those affected, and has encouraged citizens to donate blood to contribute to the medical care of the injured.
The Popular leader has also raised the need to clarify what happened and why the accident occurred. To that end, he has called for an immediate and rigorous investigation by the competent authorities, as well as for the action of the Justice system to determine the causes of the events without interference.

An independent review to know the condition of the tracks
Feijóo has defended that the institutional response cannot be limited to clarifying the specific circumstances of the accident. In his view, it is necessary to know the general state of the Spanish railway network through a complete and independent assessment.
The president of the PP considers that Spaniards have the right to have reliable information about the condition of the tracks, the facilities, and the systems that guarantee the safety of train operations.
In this regard, he has committed to promoting a comprehensive review of the railway network, with the aim of knowing its real situation and determining what actions may be necessary.
The proposal also includes a demand for economic transparency. Feijóo has stated that it must be known where the money allocated to railway infrastructure has been spent and what its actual destination has been.
Immediate investigation and without interference
The opposition leader has called on the Government to act responsibly and facilitate, from the very first moment, the clarification of what happened.
He has also defended that the Justice system can investigate the facts independently and without interference, so that the conclusions are based on the evidence and on the technical analysis of the circumstances of the accident.
Feijóo has raised different questions about what happened, although he has avoided anticipating conclusions about its causes or assigning specific responsibilities.
In fact, he has emphasized that this is not the time to delve into the attribution of responsibilities, but rather to attend to the victims, support their families, and guarantee an investigation that allows the facts to be known.

The commitment that Spain works again
In his appearance from Génova, Feijóo linked his proposals to a broader commitment to the functioning of public services and the country’s infrastructure.
The Popular president has committed to work so that Spain works again, placing railway safety, infrastructure oversight, and transparency in investments among the issues he considers necessary to address.
His approach thus combines three demands: to immediately clarify the causes of the Urda accident, to independently review the state of the entire railway network, and to know the destination of the economic resources allocated to its conservation and modernization.
All this, he has insisted, with respect for the pain of the victims and without assigning responsibilities before the investigations are concluded.
