Temperatures will rise generally this Sunday, October 25, in a good part of Spain, with particularly notable increases in the north and the interior of the peninsula. According to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), minimum temperatures may experience increases of more than six degrees in the interior of Galicia, Asturias, and León, as well as in the south of the Iberian system. The day will be marked by the predominance of high pressures, which will favor a situation of atmospheric stability in a large part of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, although rains will continue to be present in some areas of the north and the wind will reach strong intensities in certain points of the territory.
The increase in temperatures will be the main protagonist of the day, especially during the early hours of the day, when the greatest differences compared to Saturday will be recorded. In a good part of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, the skies will be mostly clear or with intervals of high clouds, while in the extreme north, greater instability will persist. AEMET also forecasts the appearance of morning mists and fog banks in the Strait and the northwestern peninsula, which could last longer in the elevated areas of Galicia.
Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea maintain the rains despite the rise in temperatures
Despite the thermal rise, Galicia and the communities in the Cantabrian area will continue to register cloudy or overcast skies, accompanied by generally weak precipitation. The rains could be somewhat more persistent in the eastern extreme of the Cantabrian Sea and some precipitation is also expected in the western Pyrenees, although the predominance of high pressures will limit instability in the rest of the territory.
The situation will be different in the center, south, and a good part of the eastern peninsula, where stable weather and intervals of sunshine will mark the Sunday. In the Balearic Islands, mostly clear skies will also prevail, although the wind may reach greater intensity in certain areas of the archipelago. The rise in temperatures will affect both maximum and minimum temperatures, although the most pronounced increases will concentrate on the nighttime temperatures of the northwest and the interior.
AEMET forecasts strong gusts of cierzo and tramontana
The wind will be another of the highlighted phenomena this Sunday. In general terms, winds from the west component will prevail, with weak intensity in much of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, although they may intensify in coastal areas and the northeastern peninsula. The forecast includes strong intervals of cierzo in the lower Ebro and tramontana in the Ampurdán, where gusts could reach high speeds.
Additionally, very strong gusts are expected in exposed areas of northern Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea. AEMET has issued yellow warnings for coastal phenomena in areas of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and the Basque Country, so it is recommended to check official updates before engaging in activities on the coast. These conditions will contrast with the stability expected for large areas of the interior peninsula.
Canary Islands face a day of calima, heat, and strong wind
In Canary Islands, the forecast will be marked by the presence of calima, cloudy intervals, and possible weak and scattered precipitation, less likely in the eastern islands. The suspended dust will mainly affect the midlands and peaks, especially in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and the most exposed slopes of the rest of the archipelago, where it could reduce visibility and worsen atmospheric conditions.
Temperatures will also experience slight increases in the islands, especially on the southern and western slopes, where thermometers could reach or locally exceed 30 degrees. Meanwhile, the trade wind will blow with moderate intensity and could leave very strong gusts in the most exposed areas, although it will tend to lose strength as the day progresses.
Thus, Sunday, October 25, will be marked by a widespread rise in temperatures in Spain, with the greatest increases in Galicia, Asturias, León, and the Iberian system. While much of the Peninsula will enjoy a stable day, the north will maintain precipitation and episodes of intense wind, and the Canary Islands will combine the thermal increase with the entry of calima.
