The municipal spokesperson of the BNG in the City Council of A Coruña, Avia Veira, has condemned the "absolutely disproportionate" police actions carried out this Wednesday in the Herculian city during the protests against "fascism" that coincided with a Vox event.

In a statement to the media, she recounted that "there were assaults without a word being exchanged, they used means such as tear gas and rubber bullets in a disproportionate manner," referring to the operation deployed.

At the same time, she rejected the violent episodes that were recorded, she clarified, "after the demonstration was dissolved and declared over" and "far from where it was and much later." Regarding the stance of the nationalist formation, she emphasized: "We disagree just like 99.99% of the people who were at those mobilizations."

Regarding the call, she stressed that "the political and media right tries to criminalize a mobilization that had a specific objective that is being distorted," defending the purpose of the protest.

Peaceful behavior and criticism of the far right

Veira has insisted that "the vast majority of us who participated in the antifascist mobilizations had an absolutely peaceful and exemplary behavior," claiming the attitude of those who took to the streets.

She explained that "what we wanted was to express that we are not in favor of the ideas that Vox came to propagate, of the hatred that is manifested every day against women, migrants, homosexuals...", referring to the political content of the event.

During her speech, the spokesperson expressed "great pride" for a city that, in her opinion, "renewed an unequivocally antifascist vocation" and "especially for its youth." She highlighted "a A Coruña that fights against hatred, racism, xenophobia, and machismo" as a defining trait of the mobilization.

In this line, she pointed out that the "violence that concerns" the BNG the most is the one "being exercised by the Police, with that totally disproportionate use of force," as well as the one "being poured out day by day by that far right that goes against rights and freedoms."
