The Medical and Professional Strike Committee of the Community of Madrid, in which Amyts, AME, Stop Peonadas, MUD and SIME-Csit Unión Profesional participate, has decided to cancel the strike days planned for this Thursday and Friday, following the railway accident that occurred in Urda (Toledo) in which fatalities have been recorded.
During the morning of this Wednesday, the Madrid doctors and practitioners were gathered in front of the headquarters of the Department of Health when they became aware of the collision between two trains. At that moment, they interrupted the protest and observed a minute of silence in memory of all the deceased people.
In a note released to the media, the Strike Committee has indicated that the suspension of the stoppages on the 29th and 30th is adopted "out of respect for the victims and their families" and has specified that this decision will be formally notified to the Community of Madrid.
"At these moments of deep consternation, our solidarity is with the victims, their relatives and all the people affected by this tragedy," the spokespeople of the Strike Committee emphasized in the sent communiqué.
Regarding this Wednesday's day, the committee has insisted that the established minimum services contemplate 100% coverage in emergencies and urgencies, so urgent health care is fully guaranteed throughout the day.
At the same time, they have stressed that the doctors and practitioners "maintain their full willingness to collaborate in the face of any extraordinary need that could arise, as they have already demonstrated in other situations of special gravity," and have taken the opportunity to ask the public to go donate blood.
The Strike Committee has also wanted to convey a message of recognition and support to the coordination, emergency and health care teams of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as to those of other autonomous communities that are participating in managing the consequences of the accident, among them the Community of Madrid.
This Wednesday the start of the first of the four 72-hour stoppage periods called until December was scheduled to demand improvements in working conditions. After the announced suspension, the strike calendar will resume from November 4 to 7.
