The councilor of San Sebastián, Jon Insausti (PNV), has emphasized, in light of the calls from platforms like blocus to generate incidents in various cities, that "the violence is not going to return to the streets of Donostia." He has also stressed that "here we are not going to allow anyone to impose their ideas, much less with the hand of the extreme right."
In the appearance following the Local Government Board, Insausti referred to the disturbances recorded last Monday in Bilbao and explained that he has already contacted its mayor, Juan Mari Aburto, to convey the "solidarity of the people of Donostia."
In this context, he mentioned the calls from groups like Blocus that "are calling for disturbances in different European capitals and the name of Donostia-San Sebastián has also appeared." In light of this scenario, he reiterated that "the violence is not going to return to the streets of Donostia."
The mayor has emphasized that "the people of Donostia are not going to allow violence to return" to the streets of the city and has stated that "the defense of an idea, ideology, through violence totally delegitimizes it." According to him, "the defense of ideas through violence is not valid. We have unfortunately lived this here and it is not necessary to burn containers, break windows for the defense of an idea."
Insausti has reminded that "we have gained a lot in coexistence during these years, we have worked hard for it to be so and what we are not going to allow is to take steps backward in this aspect."
He has also warned that "Donostia is going to combat any type of ideology or mobilization from the extremes, both from the left and the right, whether it comes from the extreme right with fascism or totalitarianism that can also accompany the extreme left."
The first mayor has remarked that "we are going to protect coexistence and violence is not going to return to the streets, I would like to make that clear. I think it is important to be forceful in this type of message in the face of these types of situations. No step back."
"PREPARED AND PREVENTED"
Jon Insausti has indicated that the Municipal Guard, in coordination with the Ertzaintza, is "working intensively to be prepared and prevented for what may happen" because, he explained, "there are different calls, different cities and we still do not know for sure what may happen, if Donostia is going to be a square or not in the coming weekends."
Finally, he has reiterated the importance of staying "alert and prepared so that situations that have been experienced in other cities are not experienced here." In his opinion, "that is not the model that the people of Donostia demand and we know that to defend an idea it is not necessary to take it to the extreme, without a doubt."
