The Mars Whisky distillery, distributed by Qantima Group, consolidates its presence in the high value-added spirits sector
The premium spirits market in Spain is undergoing a shift in trend marked by consumer sophistication. Over the past five years, Japanese-origin whisky has gone from being a novelty to positioning itself as a value segment within the high-end spirits sector, experiencing double-digit growth in the domestic market.
This development responds to three fundamental pillars: the premiumization of consumption, where the user prioritizes the quality and history of the product; the boost of haute cuisine and signature mixology; and the collector value derived from limited bottle allocations and the prolonged aging processes in Japan.
Mars Whisky, a firm with facilities in the Japanese Alps, Tsunuki and the island of Yakushima, leads this trend in Spain through the exclusive import and distribution of Qantima Group. The distillery uses the differences in microclimates to achieve diverse organoleptic profiles, which has facilitated its integration into cutting-edge hospitality.
Manuel Villa, CEO of Qantima Group, points out the evolution observed in the sector: "The development of the Japanese whisky category in Spain over these last five years has been impressive. We have gone from introducing the consumer to the origin to managing mature demand that seeks very specific references, limited editions and complex flavor profiles. Mars Whisky perfectly embodies that mastery and devotion to detail that define the Japanese product".
Regarding short-term commercial prospects, the company expects to close the fiscal year with record figures, especially driven by the last quarter, a decisive period for the luxury and corporate gifts sectors.
On the expectations for the end of the year, Manuel Villa adds: "We are facing the final stretch of the year with excellent market prospects. The last quarter is always decisive for the luxury and gifting segment, and we expect demand for Japanese whisky to reach record figures this year-end. Consumers and leading hospitality businesses are looking for products that provide a distinctive experience for their celebrations and corporate gifts, and there Qantima Group and Mars Whisky have a privileged position".
