CCOO has demanded this Thursday the "immediate" dismissal of the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, while also condemning the dissemination of the audios related to the accident and demanding a "rigorous and transparent" investigation into the train collision in Urda (Toledo), in which at least 69 people have lost their lives, according to the latest official data.
In a statement, the union emphasizes that said investigation must serve to clarify the causes of the accident, delimit the possible responsibilities and establish the appropriate measures to "prevent a tragedy of these characteristics from happening again".
The trade union organization has also asked for "maximum prudence and responsibility" before disseminating "hasty" conclusions about a "possible human error" and has denounced the "public singling out" of an employee of the control center by Puente, whom it calls for his "immediate dismissal".
According to CCOO, actions such as those of the minister, "blaming the workers and putting the weakest link in the chain in the pillory, when the investigation has still not been completed, are deserving of his immediate dismissal".
At the same time, the union emphasizes that railway safety "cannot depend exclusively on the individual action of professionals" and defends the need to have systems and protection mechanisms that make it possible to anticipate, detect and correct possible failures before they generate "irreparable" consequences.
"It seems absolutely irresponsible to us that, in the midst of a tragedy of this magnitude and with an investigation still open, the conversations of the professionals involved are disseminated, favoring parallel judgments and singling out workers without knowing all the circumstances of what happened, the situations of stress to which they are subjected or the increase in workloads borne," it criticizes.
In this line, CCOO requests that these leaks be investigated and that the corresponding responsibilities be determined, and it advances that it will demand "all guarantees" technical, operational and organizational necessary to safeguard both the staff and the users of the railway.
Lastly, the Railway Sector of FSC-CCOO expresses its "deep sorrow" and conveys its affection and closeness to the relatives of the fatal victims, its wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured people, and its support for all those affected, in addition to a "special remembrance" for its colleagues who were working aboard the derailed trains.
