The Instituto de la Empresa Familiar (IEF) has expressed this Thursday its "deep regret" over the railway disaster that occurred in Toledo, which has left dozens dead. The entity describes it as an "avoidable tragedy" and demands an "in-depth" review of the whole of the Spanish infrastructure.
The IEF also shows its concern over the progressive deterioration of these networks and calls for acting urgently to halt their "evident shortcomings".
"Beyond the clarification of the specific causes of the accident, it is essential to review in depth and rigorously the state of our basic infrastructures and focus the action of the institutions on solving the evident shortcomings that are revealed in such a painful way," the institute says in a public note.
Along the same lines, the business organization underlines that "Spain is a modern country and it is not acceptable for its essential services to deteriorate to the point of putting the lives of its citizens in danger".
The IEF likewise conveys its "feeling of pain" and the "heart-rending sense of helplessness before an avoidable tragedy that strikes the Spanish society again, only a few months after" the railway accident recorded in Adamuz (Córdoba) last January.
The institution concludes by conveying its condolences to the relatives of the deceased and the injured, and makes its closeness and support reach them in moments "so difficult".
According to the latest official figures released this Thursday morning by the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, the death toll in the train accident in Urda (Toledo) now stands at 69 people.
