The president of the National Federation of Self-Employed Workers Associations (ATA), Lorenzo Amor, has expressed his sorrow over the death of the president of the CEOE Foundation and former Minister of Employment and Social Security under PP governments, Fátima Báñez, in the railway accident recorded this Wednesday, underscoring that “a great colleague and a better friend” is leaving.

In a message published on his X profile and reported by Europa Press, Amor recounted that Báñez left him “waiting at Santa Justa”, alluding to the train station in Sevilla where they had planned to meet for lunch before flying together to Madrid.

“Getting on a train cannot be an act of faith nor a matter of luck to reach your destination”, Amor emphasized, who also stressed that the former minister has departed “like the greats”, in “an act of service”.

The ATA leader also wanted to recognize Báñez’s role in his career, thanking her for having been part of “his organizational life” and recalling that many “will be left orphaned” of her, missing the fact that she always had a “yes” for others. “Rest in peace friend. D.E.P all the victims”, he concluded in his post.

The former minister, aged 59, was traveling in one of the Iryo seats that was struck this Wednesday by a Renfe AVE train. Both trains, originating in Madrid, were heading to Sevilla, the city in which Báñez was scheduled to speak at a business event organized by the Andalusian employers’ association.
