Movistar, the commercial brand of Telefónica in Spain, ranks as the operator with the best mobile experience in the country among those analyzed in the most recent MedUX study, which has also independently assessed Orange and Vodafone.
The comparative analysis by MedUX of mobile networks in Spain, prepared with data collected between July and September this year through field measurements with 'drive test' and 'crowdsourcing' tests on real devices, aims to evaluate service quality from the point of view of users, according to what Telefónica detailed in a statement released this Friday.
According to MedUX, the commercial brand of Telefónica achieves the highest combined 'MedUX Experience Score', with 3.97 out of 5, which places it as a "unique leader" at national level in the third quarter.
Movistar leads in all key categories
The report, which sets six major categories to measure performance and the quality of the experience, determines that in all of them "Movistar is identified as the winner, adding up six leadership positions." With 3.97 points out of 5, Movistar provides the most outstanding mobile experience, ahead of Orange's 3.52 and Vodafone's 3.51, which are practically tied for second place.
In this way, Movistar tops the two overall rankings of the study: that of overall mobile experience (Best Mobile Experience) and that of service reliability (Most Reliable Mobile Experience), with 3.97 and 4.20 points out of 5, respectively. Overall mobile experience summarizes the behavior of the network across all the services analyzed, such as speed, transmission quality, and connection stability, while reliability reflects how regularly the services the customer uses are successfully completed.
The report also places Movistar in first position in the four additional categories examined. In accessibility, which refers to the network’s capacity and response speed, it achieved 3.47 points, while in the block that assesses download and upload speed in 4G and 5G and how these speeds align with transmission needs in order to provide the best services it reached 4.04 points.
Greater use of 5G and better response time
According to the study, 83.2% of the field tests of Movistar considered in this category were carried out over 5G. In addition, Movistar users are the ones who enjoy the best performance in the market in the experience of the analyzed services, specifically web browsing, use of social networks, video streaming and 'online' gaming.
As a novelty, the report includes measurement of the experience with generative artificial intelligence assistants, a service that depends mainly on end-to-end latency and transport speed, more than on the available bandwidth. In this section, Movistar records the best response time in the three evaluated percentiles.
With regard to voice, measured by the quality of the audio received in real calls, Movistar again stands out over the rest of the operators with 4.59 points out of 5.
The network director, information technologies and infrastructure at Telefónica in Spain, Juan José Marfil, has highlighted that this recognition has, for Telefónica, a "special value because it endorses its purpose as an operator to be the best route for citizens to access digital technologies and its effort to offer more and better services, supported by the best network to access the most innovative technology, a reliable network and of maximum quality that turns all technological complexity into a differential experience".
This recognition "reinforces the leadership" of Telefónica's mobile network in accessing the most innovative technology, something also supported by other analyses and independent organizations. In this sense, Opensignal has pointed out Movistar as the brand with the best mobile network in Spain, according to its report on the experience in mobile networks.
To this are added the distinctions awarded by Ookla and nPerf, which certify Movistar as the best mobile network and 5G in Spain, highlighting especially its performance in download speed, upload speed and browsing.
